A territorial teacher’s college. A bustling commuter campus. The state’s third largest university. The University of Central Oklahoma has experienced its share of transformations over the past 125 years. Some, like the name of the institution, are fairly obvious. Others manifest themselves subtly, like the spark in a student’s face when they connect to the field of study that’s right for them. Each transformation, though, has put Central on a path to become the state’s leading metropolitan university, using our proximity to the thriving Oklahoma City metro to offer better opportunities to both our students and the community we serve.

We will use our 125th anniversary to celebrate not only our past, but also our future. Here in the Transformations section, you will see how Central is making a difference today and tomorrow through our students, faculty and staff, and programs.

Our founders didn’t know how the Territorial Normal School or the community surrounding it would grow and evolve. They simply knew that education would matter. Likewise, we can’t know for sure what the future will bring – but we know education matters. What starts here as a spark can transform the world.
